'We did it all for you': Farewell Note in New World's Final Expansion

Amazon's New World: Aeternum has a hidden farewell message in its last expansion, reflecting on its journey with players.

Amazon recently confirmed that it will cease content updates for its MMO New World: Aeternum, which surprised many, especially considering the longevity of lesser-known MMOs. However, some developers anticipated this shift, as evidenced by a heartfelt farewell letter woven into the Nighthaven expansion, launched on October 13.

Senior game designer Rachel Barnum shared a tweet pinpointing the location of the goodbye note, which can be found on an island near the Tower of Strength within Nighthaven. The note pays homage to the players, detailing the shared experiences throughout their adventures:

We were there when you first found Thorpe in the forsaken grove after dragging yourself across a foreign beach. We were there when you found your first settlement, explored its charm and denizens, fought pirates and tigers, and encountered countless hazards across the land.

It concludes with a toast to the fallen, emphasizing the collaborative and memorable journey shared between developers and players:

We did it all for you, dear adventurer. Thank you for so many amazing stories, triumphs, and fits of laughter.

Despite this being the last expansion, seasonal events and bug fixes will continue, with Amazon committing to keep the servers operational until 2026. Although the option to purchase the game on Steam was temporarily removed, it was an accidental oversight and has been restored for any new players ready to join the solemn farewell.
