DDR4 RAM Prices Experience a Significant Surge as Demand Increases
DDR4 RAM prices are on the rise, now averaging $25 per DDR4-3200 module, as memory demands soar amid AI technology advancements.
It won’t be long before DDR5 is the only option available for those looking to build a budget gaming PC.
Recent reports indicate that the average spot price for a 2 GB DDR4-3200 module has skyrocketed to $25, an overwhelming surge attributed to increasing demand fueled by AI. According to semiconductor analyst Ray Wang, prices have nearly doubled in just a week.
“DRAM pricing surge is just completely unstoppable. DDR5 of course is noteworthy while that one company holds DDR4 production hit daily limit. No slowdown for most memory players, module makers, controller……for now at least.”
To put this into perspective, one would need to invest around $200 for the eight modules required to assemble a single 16 GB RAM stick, not accounting for the costs of additional components like PCBs or heatsinks.
Many memory vendors are not liable to pay full prices as they often purchase in significant quantities, likely resulting in volume discounts.
It wouldn’t surprise me if affordable DDR4 RAM kits disappear from the market soon, as some may view these skyrocketing prices as an opportunity for profit. In essence, DDR4-3200 RAM kits could become the newest ‘assets’ to trade in.
For those interested in purchasing DDR4 memory, checking out retailers for potential bargains while prices remain elevated may be prudent.
