Nintendo fans do not need to worry about the adaptation of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the Switch 2, according to a senior official at Square Enix. The company aims to deliver a port that meets or exceeds the standards set by the first remake, with a focus on handheld optimization.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2
The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade now has a fixed release date of January 22, 2026. Additionally, the upcoming entries of the remake series are expected to arrive on Nintendo’s console in the future, though specific details are still pending.
Potential Enhancements in Performance
While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has garnered acclaim as one of the most visually stunning games of 2024, its performance on the Switch 2 is expected to be solid. Producer Naoki Hamaguchi assures that Square Enix is diligently working to ensure optimal performance on the hybrid console. He stated, “[Switch 2 owners] will receive a version that is as satisfying and of high quality as the first game, if not better.”
Riding Chocobos in FF7 Rebirth
The first installment of the remake trilogy’s adaptation to the Switch is looking promising based on recent visual comparisons shared by Square Enix. The developer plans to maintain a target frame rate of 30 fps, ensuring a decent gaming experience.
Despite the Switch 2 version’s goals aligning with that of its predecessor, there is still hope for improvements, particularly regarding frame stability. While exceeding 30 fps might not be feasible, the performance of FF7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch will provide vital insight into what can be expected from Rebirth, given their shared engine and development team.
Square Enix has yet to announce the official release date for the sequel on Nintendo’s newest console. It is anticipated that, similar to the first entry, the physical version of FF7 Rebirth will follow the Game-Key Card format.
