Twitch CEO Dan Clancy Issues Apology Following Emiru Incident at TwitchCon
Dan Clancy expresses regret over the incident involving streamer Emiru during TwitchCon and discusses security measures moving forward.
In light of the recent assault incident involving streamer Emiru at TwitchCon, Twitch’s CEO Dan Clancy issued a public apology addressing the shortcomings in security during the event. Clancy expressed accountability for the security failures and acknowledged his missteps in addressing the incident afterward, stating,
“First, I want to be upfront and take accountability for the security incident that occurred during Emiru’s Meet and Greet. It shouldn’t have happened and we take that very seriously. We failed, both in allowing it to occur, and in our response following.”
Clancy assured that Twitch would conduct a thorough analysis of the incident and promised improvements in the events’ security protocols moving forward. This statement follows prior remarks made by Clancy which had been criticized after the incident. While he reassured the community, he also suggested a broader context in which such violence reflects societal issues at large.
Critics have continued to respond to Clancy’s comments, noting ongoing concerns over Twitch’s safety protocols as well as the platform’s approach to managing community interactions during live-streaming events.
