Final Fantasy 7 Director Discusses the 'Original vs Remake' Controversy
Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, shares insights on whether newcomers should play the original game or its modern remake first.
The game director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Naoki Hamaguchi, believes that the remake provides a richer experience for newcomers than the original version released on PlayStation. He acknowledges that both forms of the game are significant but suggests that new players might appreciate the updated graphics and storytelling of the remake more.
“If you have the opportunity, I’d like you to play the Remake first and enjoy it as a fresh experience on its own.”
Translation: If you have the chance, I’d prefer you to start with the Remake and enjoy it as a unique experience.
Hamaguchi further stated that enhancements to the graphics and overall presentation could leave a more impactful first impression on those unfamiliar with the Final Fantasy franchise. The director also mentioned that the upcoming releases of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade for Switch and Xbox on January 22 will continue to offer similar updates and improvements.
