In its twelve-year journey, Path of Exile has never revisited a past mechanic—until now. Game director Mark Roberts mentioned in an interview that the team has been hesitant due to a strong desire to keep content fresh, fearing disappointment among loyal players. However, the decision to revive the Breach system in the upcoming Keepers of the Flame expansion, set for release on October 31, feels right this time. This mechanic involves slaying monsters in a timed circle, and while its basic elements remain untouched, enhancements have been made to improve monster behavior thanks to developments from the recent Path of Exile 2 patch. Expect new ‘unstable’ breaches that will summon formidable bosses to enhance the challenge.
Furthermore, this expansion introduces the Genesis Tree, allowing players to grow unique items and passive bonuses through new quests. With 16 types of grafts available, players will have a host of new customization options.
Amid all these updates, Path of Exile 1 will finally adopt an asynchronous item trading system, letting players buy and sell items seamlessly without using external websites.
“If it was going to work in one game, it was always going to go into the second game,” Roberts stated, capturing the community’s anticipation for engaging new content and systems.
