Former Riot Executive Critiques Big Studio Spending as His MMO Seeks Funding

In a candid LinkedIn post, Greg Street reflects on the unsustainable financial strategies in the gaming industry while seeking support for his new MMO.

Things are dire in the game industry at the moment. Former Riot executive Greg Street, known as Ghostcrawler, vented about the funding challenges faced by his new studio, Fantastic Pixel Castle, and critiqued the large investments that fail to produce results.

“Please indulge me in feeling salty for a moment. I understand that almost nobody in the video game business is making deals right now, and those that do happen are very small.”

He expressed frustration at the lack of funding despite having a capable team and a stable game development process. For context, Street has a history with notable games like World of Warcraft and has transitioned to work on his own MMO project. He believes that the industry needs to change its approach to funding and production practices.
