Pocketpair's New Publishing Division Shuns Generative AI for Game Development

Pocketpair's John Buckley emphasizes that the new publishing branch will not work with games using generative AI, citing concerns about declining quality.

Pocketpair Publishing’s leader, John Buckley, recently shared insights about their latest initiative. He stated, “There is a growing trend of low-quality games created by AI flooding platforms like Steam.”

Buckley made it clear that their new publishing division would not engage with any projects that depend on generative AI, insisting that “we don’t believe in it” and highlighted that many publishers would be open to such projects, but Pocketpair is not among them.

He acknowledged the presence of AI-generated games in the industry, stressing that they already see a rise in such titles on Steam. Buckley believes a backlash may occur as players become vigilant in discerning between human-created games and those produced with AI assistance.
