Treyarch Considers Aim Assist Adjustments for Black Ops 7, Survey Finds Controllers Outperform

Treyarch is re-evaluating aim assist mechanics in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, focusing on evenness in competitive play.

Treyarch is implementing a comprehensive review of aim assist for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. According to their recent analysis, controller players have slightly better performance in close-quarter scenarios compared to those using keyboard and mouse.

“We’re looking very closely at the data, and the data says that controller players are winning slightly more in close-range engagements, and then keyboard-mouse players are winning slightly more in those long-range engagements,” said Matt Scronce, the design director at Treyarch.

Treyarch is exploring potential modifications to the strength of aim assist. Currently, adjustments are being made to footstep volume, sliding mechanics, and mantling speeds in response to feedback from the game’s beta phase.

The intention behind these changes is to create a more balanced competitive environment, addressing the long-standing debate surrounding controller vs. mouse aiming. Treyarch’s findings indicate that by reassessing and potentially reducing the effectiveness of rotational aim assist, they could enhance gameplay balance across platforms.

In tandem with these modifications, Treyarch also indicated that they are considering adjustments to similar assist mechanisms in Call of Duty: Warzone to ensure equitable competition for all players.
