Helldivers 2 Explores the Possibility of Ditching the Controversial Anti-Cheat System
Arrowhead Game Studios' CEO addresses player feedback regarding Helldivers 2's GameGuard anti-cheat system, suggesting its potential removal to enhance gameplay.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani is responding to fan grievances about Helldivers 2’s anti-cheat system, GameGuard, hinting at a potential elimination of this contentious feature. The game has faced significant scrutiny recently as Arrowhead strives to address tech-related complaints regarding performance issues and file sizes. Jorjani acknowledges the concerns from players on the official Helldivers 2 Discord, stating the studio will concentrate on rectifying these glitches before contemplating GameGuard’s future.
“We need to get the next Helldivers 2 patch out first and then tackle this other hydra head,” Jorjani mentioned regarding the anti-cheat system’s possible removal.
This feedback indicates that many gamers are in favor of removing the anti-cheat tool, believed to be contributing to performance setbacks and affecting accessibility perks. Former Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt is currently assessing these issues. The community response around this possibility is largely favorable, making the removal of the anti-cheat system a reasonable course of action.
The gaming industry has a long history of backlash against various anti-cheat systems, making it vital that developers pay attention to player experiences to maintain satisfaction.
