Square Enix Release Video Showcasing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Performance on Switch 2 Compared to Other Consoles
A newly released video by Square Enix highlights the performance of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the upcoming Switch 2, showcasing features and comparisons with other platforms.
A newly released video from Square Enix reveals how Final Fantasy 7 Remake performs on the next-generation Switch 2 compared to its console counterparts. This cherished RPG is one of the most anticipated ports coming to Nintendo’s latest platform and introduces features like the “Streamlined Mode” aimed at story-focused players. Digital pre-orders will grant access to the original Final Fantasy 7 for a limited time. The performance of the Switch 2 version has been a topic of interest, especially after reports of Elden Ring’s struggles during early versions, which saw frame rates drop significantly. In contrast, Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will maintain a steady frame rate of 30 FPS on the Switch 2.
A visual demonstration showcases the performance, depicting side-by-side comparisons between the Switch 2 in TV mode and the game running on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, revealing mostly consistent visual quality. Furthermore, the lighting effects in the Switch 2 version are similar to the PS5, enhancing the overall gaming experience. This version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is scheduled for release on January 22.
Visual Differences
While the comparison video does highlight a few visual variances—such as lower-quality ground textures in certain scenes—the differences are minor. The gameplay showcases run at 30 FPS, not fully displaying the impact of the 30 FPS cap on the Switch 2 compared to the 60 FPS present on other platforms.
Recently, Square Enix also announced plans to port Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to Switch 2 in 2026, further solidifying its commitment to bringing this iconic RPG series to a broader audience.
