Former Assassin's Creed Lead Claims Departure Was Not His Choice: 'I Stayed Until They Asked Me to Leave'

Marc-Alexis Côté, the previous head of the Assassin's Creed franchise, says he was asked to resign from Ubisoft after being offered a diminished role.

After confirming his exit from Ubisoft, Marc-Alexis Côté, former head of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, revealed that he did not leave willingly. He stated, “I stayed at my post until Ubisoft asked me to step aside.” Côté indicated he was offered a reduced role at the new Vantage Studios but felt it lacked continuity with his previous responsibilities.

Côté’s unexpected departure on October 15 came six months after the successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft expressed gratitude for his contributions but ultimately decided it was time to transition the leadership of the franchise. He voiced no resentment and expressed deep appreciation for the teams and projects he touched over his career.
