Sony Files for Preliminary Injunction Against Tencent's Horizon-like Game
Sony raises legal concerns over Tencent's Light of Motiram, alleging copyright infringements. The lawsuit seeks a halt on promotional content until the case is resolved.
Tencent appears to be preparing significant modifications to its upcoming survival title, Light of Motiram, yet Sony remains skeptical.
When Tencent first presented the game, many noted its striking resemblance to Horizon Zero Dawn, leading to speculation about potential legal issues. In July 2025, Sony acted on these concerns by filing a lawsuit against Tencent. Shortly thereafter, Tencent made notable adjustments, including removing much of the content that echoed the Horizon series and delaying the game’s release from late 2025 to late 2027 without offering any official explanation.
In response, Sony has now pursued a preliminary injunction to prevent Tencent from using any material that might have been ‘copied or derived’ from the Horizon franchise until the lawsuit concludes. Legal representatives have raised doubts about Tencent’s recent alterations, viewing it as an attempt to obscure true intentions.
The heart of the legal complaint centers around alleged similarities between characters and themes in Light of Motiram and the Horizon games, specifically citing a character that closely resembles Aloy, the main protagonist of the Horizon series. As the legal battle unfolds, the implications for both companies continue to develop.
