MSI Denies Unauthorized Sales of RTX 5090 in China Amid Smuggling Concerns

Reports have emerged showing images of large pallets of the RTX 5090 graphics cards purportedly in China. This raises alarms about possible smuggling operations circumventing export restrictions on advanced tech.

Officially, MSI has clarified that it has never sold or distributed these cards within China, affirming: “MSI has never officially sold or distributed the GeForce RTX 5090 in China.”

Currently, due to US export regulations, the most powerful RTX 5090 isn’t allowed for sale to the Chinese market. Instead, MSI offers the RTX 5090D variant, modified to comply with local laws.

Amid ongoing tensions and trade disputes, large-scale smuggling operations have been documented, with significant amounts of NVIDIA graphics being illegally routed to China.

Some estimates suggest that up to $1 billion worth of NVIDIA chips could have been smuggled into China over a few months, prompting regulatory scrutiny.

MSI continues to maintain strict compliance with both international agreements and NVIDIA’s regional selling framework.
