Ubisoft has confirmed that Marc-Alexis Côté, known for leading the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has left the company after more than two decades. Côté’s tenure saw a significant rise in the franchise’s popularity, culminating in one of the best-selling games in its history. His exit comes shortly after Ubisoft announced the formation of a new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, tasked with overseeing the development of the Assassin’s Creed series as well as other franchises like Far Cry and Rainbow Six.
“Following the organizational restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft,” stated a Ubisoft representative.
While Ubisoft expressed regret at losing Côté, they remain confident in the continuation of the successful foundation he built. Côté had previously been a strong advocate for the franchise, particularly during controversies surrounding the portrayal of characters in the recent games.
The timing of Côté’s resignation, mere weeks after the launch of Vantage Studios, raises questions but does not explicitly connect the two events. Many industry insiders are watching closely to see how the new studio will affect the future of the Assassin’s Creed brand.
