Owlcat Games Introduces Free Development Resources for Aspiring Game Creators
Owlcat Games, in collaboration with other studios, launches a directory of free learning materials for game developers, designed to foster community and knowledge-sharing in the industry.
Cyprus-based Owlcat Games, known for its work on the sci-fi RPG set in The Expanse, has teamed up with fellow game developers to unveil the GameDev Learning Drop, a free resource platform aimed at helping aspiring game developers.
This directory features a variety of materials including software recommendations, tutorials, and online courses, curated in collaboration with studio partners like Midwest Games, Fireshine Games, and Gaijin Entertainment.
Andrey Tsvetkov, Owlcat’s head of publishing, expressed pride in launching this initiative, emphasizing the need for community support through shared knowledge. He stated, “A rising tide truly lifts all ships. We firmly believe that showing support for open knowledge fosters collaboration and connection, which we feel is something the industry could use more of right now.”
Currently, the resource pool offers over 350 learning links that cover essential topics such as game design, programming, narrative development, and project management. The idea was conceived from internal practices at Owlcat where team leads shared helpful resources with junior members.
Tsvetkov noted the quality control measures in place, mentioning, “It’s good when you have an actual human review things and say, ‘OK, this is really useful material for juniors to pick up.’”
The plan is to expand this directory continuously, allowing developers to submit new resources for review and categorization, thus enhancing the overall quality of available materials.
