Developer Obsidian Entertainment has officially announced that pets will be a feature in The Outer Worlds 2. Scheduled for release on October 29, this eagerly awaited sequel to the acclaimed action RPG from 2019 is generating excitement among fans eager for more details ahead of its launch. The Outer Worlds 2 aims to amplify everything players enjoyed in the original by introducing more ambitious elements.
Outer Worlds 2 Pets Feature
The game will retain the quirky humor and RPG mechanics that made its predecessor a cult hit, drawing comparisons to the original Fallout series. Set in the Halcyon system dominated by gigantic corporations, players will explore various planets, engage in combat, stealth, and interact with diverse NPCs. Notably, players could only have a pet during one of the DLC expansions in the previous game, with Anubis being a prominent character.
Pets in The Outer Worlds 2
Meeting with some developers from Obsidian Entertainment, Game Informer confirmed that The Outer Worlds 2 will indeed include pets, which will echo the functionality of Anubis. These pets will be limited to the player’s ship as interactive companions, allowing for only one pet at any given time. Fans have expressed eagerness for such a feature since the release of the original game, making this addition a welcomed enhancement despite its limitations. The developers teased that one pet would be a non-violent Protectorate Drone, while details about additional companions remain undisclosed.
The Outer Worlds 2 Combat
The pet companion, Anubis, can be acquired after a specific interaction within the Peril on Gorgon DLC. This endearing canid, once tamed, follows the player back to their ship where it functions as an interactable, decorative item contributing to the ship’s atmosphere. It’s expected that the companions aboard the Unreliable will have unique responses to Anubis, which likely extends to other characters in The Outer Worlds 2 as well.
Recently, The Outer Worlds 2 achieved ‘gold’ status, signifying that development is complete and the game will soon be available for eager fans. This iteration promises an expanded arsenal of weaponry and refined first-person shooting mechanics, enhanced through collaboration with Halo Studios. With improved visuals over its 2019 counterpart, The Outer Worlds 2 will introduce a fresh cast of characters alongside a new solar system complete for exploration.
