Arc Raiders Introduces Innovative Approach to Progression Resets

Arc Raiders aims to tackle the common issues found in extraction games regarding progression resets with a new Projects system.

Arc Raiders reveals a new Projects system that aims to mitigate the common dissatisfaction surrounding progression wipes in extraction games. With Arc Raiders slated to launch at the end of October, excitement is palpable among fans.

For many online games, a reset of player progression can feel frustrating, as players often find themselves starting anew. However, Embark is looking to innovate this experience with their unique approach.

Projects Feature

Embark is introducing a component called Projects, which becomes available to players once they reach level 20. The Project is set on an 8-week cycle, commencing on the game’s launch date and running until December 21. Players will need to invest significant time to complete these projects, but those who can’t finish will retain their progress. Players opting to complete a project will lose progression in areas such as levels, skills, and access to crafting materials, though cosmetic items and rewards will remain.

While Embark acknowledges that this might not resolve all issues with progression resets, they believe a mandatory wipe doesn’t respect player investment. Instead, players can choose to wipe, receiving incentives like unique cosmetic rewards and buffs that last throughout the Expedition cycle. Importantly, these buffs are designed purely for smoother progression rather than giving a competitive edge.

It will be intriguing to see community reactions to this new system, bolstered by excitement stemming from successful playtests earlier this year. Embark faced some backlash due to previous hype around an announcement that led many to expect an earlier launch date than the October 30 reveal.
