Crysis 4 has been officially placed on hold as the developer, Crytek, lays off 15% of its workforce. The studio cited challenges in financial sustainability, stating they “cannot continue as before and remain financially sustainable.”
In a statement on X, Crytek reported “complex, unfavourable market dynamics” as the reason behind these layoffs, affecting roughly 60 out of approximately 400 employees in development and shared services. “This has not been an easy decision to make, as we deeply appreciate the hard work of our talented teams,” they noted.
With the Crysis franchise’s future uncertain, fans are left wondering about the game’s viability, especially since there has been little communication on the project since it was announced in January 2022. While the game is not cancelled, it is unclear when development will resume as the company shifts focus on Hunt: Showdown 1896.
Crytek maintains that it remains “fully committed” to Hunt: Showdown, which recently enjoyed a peak player count after a major update. However, it will continue to take measures to reduce operational costs amidst these changes.
