In a unique approach to employee onboarding, the company Graphite announced its use of “dogfooding,” which compels employees to use the products they create. This involves a stark method dubbed “onboarding roulette,” where an engineer’s account is randomly deleted each day at 9 a.m. This unorthodox practice, while frustrating for employees, aims to identify and resolve issues within their AI code review software.
According to Graphite’s co-founder and CTO, Greg Foster, the method helps create user empathy and has successfully caught numerous bugs. He advises other teams to adopt similar strategies to enhance their product testing efficiency.
