Battlefield 6 Player Demonstrates Portal's Capabilities with Impressive Remake of COD4's Shipment Map
A player showcases the Portal feature in Battlefield 6 by recreating a popular Call of Duty map ahead of the game's official release.
One of the most valuable aspects of a first-person shooter is allowing players to modify maps and create servers, and Battlefield 6 is set to provide that flexibility with its Portal feature. This innovative tool allows users to craft custom game modes and host persistent matches.
The initial demonstration of Portal’s potential came from a remarkable remake of the Call of Duty 4’s Shipment map by game developer Matavatar. He had a functioning version of the map available even before the game was publicly launched, thanks to EA releasing the Portal editor early.
I had the opportunity to play on Matavatar’s Shipment server, which successfully captured the essence of the original. The map, surprisingly, was suspended in mid-air within the Operation Firestorm skybox, reminiscent of the classic Halo Forge experience, and this was indeed a compliment.

As interesting custom maps emerge, the freedom given to players is a significant win for the gaming community. You can currently find Shipment servers within Battlefield 6’s community section and even download Matavatar’s map file for personal use.
For those interested in further explorations, Matavatar is also working on adapting Call of Duty’s Killhouse and has amusingly crafted a Star Destroyer using concrete blocks, showcasing the versatility of the Portal tool.
