Tired of Noisy Keyboards? Google Japan Introduces a Rotary Keyboard Concept

Google Japan reveals a quirky rotary keyboard concept that replaces traditional keys with rotary mechanisms, sparking curiosity about its practical use.

Google Japan has unveiled an intriguing concept for a keyboard that ditches the traditional clicky keys in favor of a rotary mechanism. The Gboard Dial Version allows users to type by spinning a rotary wheel over the desired character instead of pressing keys.

With a nostalgic design reminiscent of rotary phones, this new concept is geared toward those tired of conventional keyboards. Users engage with the keyboard by inserting their finger into a hole above the character they wish to type, rotating the wheel, and releasing it. While this method certainly allows for a new typing experience, it may not be practical for fast typing.

Interestingly, Google Japan has shared a GitHub repository containing files for DIY enthusiasts to create their own rotary keyboard, including build guides and data for 3D printing.

Despite its whimsical nature, the Gboard Dial Version is just a concept and is not currently available for sale, alongside other unconventional Google keyboard concepts introduced over the years.
