Intel Unveils XeSS 3 with Multi-Frame Generation, Leading AI Graphics Performance Over AMD

Intel announces significant upgrades in its AI-driven graphics technology, enhancing the capabilities of its graphics processing units.

At the recent Technology Tour event in Arizona, Intel introduced XeSS 3, an upgrade to their AI-enhanced graphics performance scaling package that aims to rival Nvidia’s DLSS. This new version will provide multi-frame generation support for Arc GPU users. While details on the specific timing or additional features remain ambiguous, the clear goal is to enhance gaming graphics quality significantly.

In applications with current support for XeSS-FG, gamers will be able to activate 3x or 4x frame generation, either through the game settings or Intel’s Graphics Software application.

Intel had previously hinted at this innovation, with indications surfacing in a config file labeled ‘Multi-Frame Generation (XeSS)’. This led to speculation about forthcoming updates to their graphics technology, confirming that XeSS-MFG is indeed on the way. The process mimics Nvidia’s approach: rendering a frame, storing it, and using an AI algorithm to create in-between frames, leading to a smoother visual experience.

Despite these advances, Intel’s strategy appears focused on Arc GPU performance improvements without the intention to dilute its essence by extending support to other GPU brands for now. Should such features become available to non-Intel hardware, it would greatly benefit a wider gaming audience without impacting Intel’s discrete GPU sales.

With XeSS-MFG, AMD remains absent in the realm of multi-frame generation technologies, leaving the market with the top two competitors—Nvidia with DLSS and Intel with XeSS. As developers prioritize which technology to support, Intel’s relatively minor share in the GPU market still presents challenges for broader adoption.
