The landscape following Disco Elysium’s success is tangled. After the acclaimed RPG’s launch, the development team ZA/UM disbanded, resulting in several factions vying to create a spiritual successor and undermine each other.
One prominent figure in this chaos is Samantha Béart, famed for her role as Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3. She has attracted interest from several developers aiming to build on Disco Elysium’s legacy, yet she is firm about only participating if it includes one condition.
“To the next studio that tries this: if your spiritual successor to Disco Elysium does not involve creator Robert Kurvitz, then save both of us some time and miss me with that casting call.” – Samantha Béart
She did not specify which successor projects reached out to her, but it’s clear that at least one has shown interest. With Karlach being a standout character in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Béart earning a BAFTA nomination for her role, her participation would be a significant advantage for any new project.
There’s a possibility for a reunion of Béart and Kurvitz; he has formed a new studio named Red Info alongside artist Aleksander Rostov and writer Helen Hindpere. Their current project remains undisclosed, but earlier this year it was reported they filed a copyright claim related to a project titled Corinthians.
