GameStop Clarifies Controversy Over Pokemon's Shiny Legendary Event
GameStop addresses concerns regarding the distribution of Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, outlining limitations imposed by The Pokemon Company.
Following the release of Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon distribution codes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, GameStop has confirmed that limits on code availability were set by The Pokemon Company (TPCi). GameStop is committed to distributing more Pokemon Scarlet and Violet codes until the event concludes on October 15.
Currently, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet distribution event is the only opportunity for trainers to obtain Shiny Koraidon in Pokemon Violet and Shiny Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet, as these Legendary creatures are normally Shiny Locked. This event is active at various retailers worldwide, including GameStop in the US and EB Games in Canada. However, the event has sparked controversy in the US due to the rapid depletion of codes at GameStop locations, with reports of some codes appearing on eBay through scalpers.
GameStop Addresses Code Restrictions
After receiving feedback from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players regarding the situation, GameStop took to social media to clarify that approximately 50 codes were allocated to each store for the initial distribution wave, followed by another 50 codes per store in a second wave starting on October 4. The first wave distributed special cards, while the second utilized printed codes on receipts. GameStop emphasized that the limitations were imposed by TPCi, contrasting with other retailers outside the US that faced no such restrictions.
As of now, TPCi has not issued any response to GameStop’s statement, which has seen mixed reactions from the community. Some players have raised questions about code quantities at GameStop stores, while others appreciated the retailer’s transparency. Fans of Pokemon are calling on TPCi to reply and consider employing online Mystery Gift events to mitigate future scalping issues.
With ongoing concerns like this event and existing bugs with the Paradox Tera Raid event, the relationship between Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and its community remains strained.
