Valve Removes New Counter-Strike 2 Map Just After Launch

The map de_transit was swiftly pulled from Counter-Strike 2 due to potential copyright issues and a controversial name hidden in its data.

Valve added several community maps to Counter-Strike 2 on October 2. However, de_transit was removed two days later, with speculation surrounding potential copyright concerns and a hidden inappropriate term in its data. The term ‘gamer word’ refers back to an infamous incident involving PewDiePie in a 2017 livestream where a racial slur was mentioned. Valve’s decision follows their update on October 1 that included Transit among other maps, directly addressing legal risks and community sentiment.

“I want to say it was my fault,” said Rikuda, the co-designer of de_transit, who acknowledged that a joke entity name was mistakenly left unchanged. This led to the map’s quick removal, illustrating the delicate balance between creativity and responsible content in gaming.
