A month after its launch, Cronos: The New Dawn has received a native Linux build, announced by the developers at Bloober Team. They stated, “Today, we’ve released a native build of the game for Steam’s handheld console, which means even better performance on this platform. Enjoy Cronos on Steam, wherever you are!”
Originally, Cronos: The New Dawn was marked as Deck Verified at launch, and now players on both Steam Deck and Linux don’t have to run the game through compatibility layers. The rise in popularity of the Steam Deck has spurred many developers to provide native Linux support. For instance, Hollow Knight: Silksong also featured native support from its launch last month, while one dedicated engineer at Larian ensured that Baldur’s Gate 3 runs natively on Steam Deck.
With the addition of Cronos: The New Dawn, over 42,000 games on Steam now support Linux, and around 9,000 games have received Deck Verified status. Six of the top ten selling games under Steam’s U.S. sales chart are now either “Playable” or “Verified” on the handheld, showing growth in native Linux support, even accounting for the fact that only two have direct Linux support at present.
As more games become accessible across multiple platforms, Linux is becoming a viable option, exemplified by titles like Cronos: The New Dawn.
