Nintendo Resolves Backward Compatibility Issues for Five Switch Games on Switch 2

Nintendo has enhanced its backward compatibility for five games on its latest console, Switch 2, while flagging potential issues with others.

The Switch 2 has received significant updates enhancing backward compatibility for five games initially released on Switch 1. These improvements specifically affect titles such as Warframe, Deemo Reborn, Ultra Age, Library of Ruina, and Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025. As a result of this latest update, all five games are now fully functional on the new console.

Nintendo previously announced that the Switch 2 would not guarantee absolute backward compatibility, emphasizing that certain games might not work due to specific hardware requirements. For instance, titles like Ring Fit Adventure present challenges due to accessories that are only compatible with the original Joy-Con controllers.

New Compatibility Fixes

The updates and fixes were rolled out with the Switch 2 20.5.0 update, launched at the end of September 2025. This update has made significant strides in making older titles playable, although Nintendo acknowledges that some older games may still encounter issues tied to the new system’s architecture.

In parallel to these improvements, Nintendo identified compatibility warnings for additional Switch 1 games, including Jelly Troops, Transistor, Mugen Souls, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and Subway Simulator 2025: City Train. Only Jelly Troops is currently flagged as unsupported, with progression issues noted.

Nintendo’s commitment to improving compatibility across its titles remains steadfast, expected to continue addressing these and other evolving challenges in the near future.
