Steam’s Highly Anticipated Title Kingmakers Faces Indefinite Postponement
Kingmakers, one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, has been hit with an indefinite delay. Though the exact timing of its market debut remains uncertain, Kingmakers developer Redemption Road Games offered some consolation to fans by indicating that the title should still launch in the near future—and promised the wait will be worth it.
Originally announced in February 2024, Kingmakers combines medieval warfare with modern weaponry into an RTS-shooter hybrid. As of early October 2025, it ranks as the sixth most-wishlisted game on Valve’s storefront, based on data scraped by SteamDB. Redemption Road Games had previously committed to an October 8 release date for Kingmakers.
Indefinite Delay Due to Need for Further Polish
The eagerly awaited medieval game with guns has now been delayed mere days ahead of its planned launch. Redemption Road announced the postponement in an October 3 tweet, apologizing to fans eager to jump into Kingmakers. “We are sorry for letting you down,” the statement reads. The indie developer cited a need for further polish as the main reason for the delay, while also reiterating its ambitious goals for the title.
Redemption Road emphasizes that Kingmakers pushes the Unreal Engine 4 codebase “to its absolute limits,” delivering extensive maps populated with thousands of combatants, seamless drop-in co-op multiplayer, and detailed physics that serve as the foundation for an intricate damage and destruction system. The studio aims to create a highly optimized experience, capable of hitting 60 frames per second even on mid-range PCs. Despite the challenges, Redemption Road remains confident it can meet all technical targets, as 80% of its team consists of engineers “who got into this business to push technological barriers.”
Although indefinite delays can be disappointing for fans, the developer’s statement suggests that this particular postponement is not due to any significant setback. If more polish is all that is necessary, Kingmakers may soon receive a new release date. The game is slated to launch through the Steam Early Access program, which provides Redemption Road with player feedback and additional funding to further refine the game ahead of its eventual 1.0 release.
Kingmakers not only merges settings but also genres, being described as a blend of real-time strategy and third-person shooter games. It will be published by Netherlands-based tinyBuild and is yet to confirm any platforms beyond PC.
