NetherRealm audio director Dan Forden has announced his departure from the studio after a remarkable 15 years. Since its inception in April 2010, Forden played a crucial role in development, having a legacy that stretches back 36 years to his work with Midway. He gained fame for his voice appearing in the iconic game series Mortal Kombat, particularly recognized for the phrase “Toasty!” that resonates with players.
“Wednesday was my last day at Netherrealm. We created a lot of fun content over the years. I am proud of our achievements and the joy we had making them,” he expressed in a farewell post on Instagram.
Forden was an integral part of the small team that crafted the original Mortal Kombat in 1992, alongside notable designers like Ed Boon and John Tobias. As they ventured into Mortal Kombat 2, it was Forden who worked on sound and music, thanks to a suggestion from Boon to include his image and sound in a comedic touch of the game, birthed from an earlier inside joke during the development of Super High Impact.
In a poignant farewell, Forden acknowledged the enduring impact of fans: “I wouldn’t have lasted 37 years in the industry if fans weren’t out there playing the games we made. Thanks to all of you for supporting what we’ve done. Live long and… Toasty!”
