The rise of generative AI in recent years indicates a transformative shift in the job landscape. Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, addressed worries over job displacement due to AI automation in an interview with Channel 4 News. He emphasized that skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry will be in high demand as new factories and infrastructure grow to support the AI industry. Huang stated, “If you’re an electrician, if you’re a plumber, if you’re a carpenter, we’re going to need hundreds of thousands of them. To build all of these factories.”
Translation: “Si eres electricista, si eres fontanero, si eres carpintero, vamos a necesitar cientos de miles de ellos. Para construir todas estas fábricas.”
Huang projected that the skilled labor sector would thrive, arguing, “The skilled craft segment of every economy is going to boom.” As Nvidia continues to invest heavily in AI, plans to allocate $100 billion towards OpenAI reveal a commitment to advancing AI technology while also emphasizing the necessity of skilled workers in this evolving sector. Huang concluded, “You’re going to be building out AI infrastructure here in the UK for a decade.”
