The upcoming crossover with Monster Hunter Wilds aims to enhance the MMO experience, offering a gameplay style more reflective of Final Fantasy 14.
Final Fantasy 14’s Upcoming Collaboration with Monster Hunter to Emphasize MMO Mechanics
The Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida has indicated that the game’s upcoming collaboration with Monster Hunter Wilds will prioritize the MMO’s mechanics. The focus will shift away from the action RPG elements seen in previous collaborations.
Partnering with Capcom, they revealed more details during the Tokyo Game Show. The Monster Hunter: Wilds segment is currently live, allowing players to tackle the Omega Planetes, while Final Fantasy 14 will introduce the Windward Wilds trial on October 7, where Warriors of Light will confront Arkveld.
In a recent showcase, Yoshida noted that this event will feel distinctly more like a conventional MMO fight, contrasting with past encounters like the Rathalos battle. He expressed:
“What’s going to be different with this collaboration with Wilds is that this one will feel more [like 14] in a sense. Yes, battles are still gonna be a bit crazy, but it’s gonna play and have that Final Fantasy 14 feel to it.”
This approach aims to seamlessly integrate the lore and gameplay from both franchises, featuring unique items and battle styles that resonate within the Final Fantasy universe while still embracing the chaotic energy of Monster Hunter.
