Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, is currently evaluating the integration of an AI chatbot to assist with player support issues. As one of the leading games globally, Fortnite frequently remains at the forefront of discussions in the gaming community, with frequent innovations undertaken by Epic Games. Following the recent launch of proximity chat, which resulted in the banning of thousands of players for misconduct, the developers are now exploring AI to offer support.
In a recent update from Fortnite’s official Status Twitter account, it was revealed that a limited trial run of an AI chatbot has been implemented to facilitate player support for a small percentage of users using the English-language support site. While only 1% of users can access this feature at the moment, Epic Games plans to expand its availability in the near future. Specific capabilities regarding the kind of assistance the AI chatbot can provide remain unconfirmed, aside from addressing support inquiries.
The incorporation of AI in gaming has raised considerable debate lately, with many fans expressing concerns over its use for artistic contributions and customer service. Earlier this year, Fortnite made headlines by trialing generative AI features during a Star Wars event, which included an AI version of Darth Vader. Now, the focus shifts to incorporating AI within its customer support framework.
Despite these advancements, this isn’t the first instance of a major gaming company utilizing AI for customer assistance; Microsoft had previously launched a similar service for Xbox users. As Fortnite anticipates the launch of its annual Fortnitemares Halloween event, which promises exciting collaborations, the addition of the AI chatbot aims to enhance player experience going forward.
