The director of Pragmata has explained that balancing gameplay was the primary reason for the game’s repeated delays. Popular among gamers are sci-fi titles featuring robots and unexpected partnerships. Capcom’s new intellectual property, Pragmata, is set to merge both exciting gameplay and a compelling narrative.
Pragmata Director
Pragmata transports players to a remote space research facility where Hugh Williams partners with a girl named Diana to navigate past hostile robots and escape. Initially announced in 2020 during the PlayStation 5 reveal, the game was initially slated for a 2022 release but has faced multiple postponements. Now, an update has brought hope for its launch in 2026.
Delays Due to Balancing
In an interview with The Gamer, director Cho Yonghee emphasized that gameplay balancing was crucial for the multiple holdups. The core concept of the game hasn’t shifted, though implementing its combat mechanics proved challenging. He noted that there was “so much trial and error” to determine the best mechanical and visual strategies. Producer Naoto Oyama supported this, stating that synchronizing the mechanics of shooting and hacking had contributed to the prolonged development.
Yonghee mentioned that the game’s announcement has been a motivating force for the team. If not for its initial trailer launch in 2020, Pragmata might not have achieved its current form. Oyama added that the trailer kept interest alive, especially during digital showcases, as fans eagerly anticipated updates on the game.
With the game’s upcoming preview at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, Capcom has shared vibrant new visuals, signaling a freshly penciled release timeframe for fans.
