I often wish to disconnect from technology and embrace the peaceful existence of a wandering poet. Unfortunately, my poetry hasn’t reached a level that could earn me shelter or sustenance. However, in the enchanting world of Oku, I can pursue that dream, exploring stunning Japanese landscapes while assisting eccentric characters.
A new trailer showcased during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct introduced us to the charming NPCs you’ll encounter, such as the Tea Practitioner Nami, a white cat named Taiko, and a grumpy fisherman.
In this game, you take on the role of a monk who can literally ride the wind, using clouds as stepping stones or gliding elegantly over the water. Engaging with a talking cat no longer seems like a distant fantasy.
Moreover, the gameplay will feature mechanics where you can craft haikus influenced by your surroundings. When interacting with the fisherman, you can select from a treasure trove of words that you’ve collected to create uplifting verses. It’s a creative process reminiscent of Chants of Sennar, where you uncover which words and symbols harmonize well to learn new languages.
Oku is set to release in early 2027, so aspiring poet monks must be patient. For now, you can wishlist it on Steam.
