Awaysis: A Unique Take on Dungeon Crawlers
Somewhere between classic Zelda and the humorous gameplay found in Human Fall Flat, the game Awaysis has emerged as a fresh take on the dungeon crawler genre. This self-proclaimed “dungeon brawler” is set to introduce skiing physics into the gameplay.
In its latest trailer presented at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, viewers are treated to a hilarious showcase where players engage with physics-based mechanics. For instance, one player can nudge their co-op partner off ledges accidentally, suggesting that chaos will be prevalent.
The game’s design leans heavily on physics, utilizing ramps, concaves, and half-pipes to create environments that allow for dynamic gameplay—where players can accelerate or soar to thrilling heights, creating a unique level of engagement reminiscent of both classic arcade titles and modern multiplayer experiences.
There’s also an interesting blend of humor and competitive play, as players can send enemies flying with their magic projectiles or boost their momentum down slopes.
Music and Development
Notably, Hirokazu Tanaka has been highlighted for his eclectic soundtrack, which mixes booming bass synths with funky sounds that enhance the gameplay experience. Tanaka’s reputation includes creating soundtracks for iconic games like Metroid and Earthbound.
Although there’s no confirmed release date, players can currently add Awaysis to their wishlist on Steam.
