Doomspire: A Fantastic Mix of Deck Building, Roguelikes and Fantasy
Explore the new card game Doomspire, combining beloved elements of deck building and roguelikes set within an immersive fantasy world.
Are you prepared to dive into the depths?
As a Magic: The Gathering enthusiast, I enjoy a good deck-building game. Add some fantasy elements and a roguelike twist, and it checks all my boxes. Enter Doomspire, where you venture into an ancient ruin to battle bosses, collect as much loot as you can carry, and, of course, gather cards.
If you’re familiar with Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering Arena, the Doomspire trailer displayed during today’s PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct will resonate with you. I appreciate when the cards actively move to attack — it reminds me of my childhood when I would push my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards around as if they were animated.
The game features several different card types:
- Minions: These standard creatures remain on the battlefield and execute attacks and defenses.
- Powers: Similar to Sorcery and Instant spells, they deliver effects to help turn the battle in your favor during critical moments.
- Passives: These work like Enchantments, providing continuous effects that can be enhanced based on how frequently specific triggers are activated.
The Minions can possess abilities too, adding complexity to Doomspire. Some abilities trigger immediately when a Minion appears, while others may activate later under certain conditions. Deciding which cards to add to your deck might prove challenging.
Unlike many titles showcased today, you don’t need to wait long to immerse yourself in Doomspire. The game released on September 19, so you can jump in and start playing today — it’s available on Steam.
