Fans have long expressed their disappointment at the absence of a sequel to the acclaimed action-adventure game Bully. Recently, Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, shed light on why Bully 2 never came to fruition.
The original Bully, which launched in 2006, was well-received by critics and gamers alike. The absence of a sequel, a common trend in gaming, is attributed to various factors, including project focus and resource limitations.
Why Did Rockstar Not Produce Bully 2?
During a conversation with IGN at the Los Angeles Comic Con 2025, Houser was queried about the supposed Bully sequel. He remarked that at the time, there was insufficient time and resources for Rockstar to embark on another major project. Instead, the studio concentrated on titles like L.A. Noir, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, and Grand Theft Auto 5. Houser expressed that the lack of development for Bully 2 stemmed from ‘bandwidth issues,’ stating that they had a small lead creative team and limited leadership resources that could manage only a few outputs concurrently.
Despite Bully 2 not progressing beyond the developmental phase, the other sequels released by Rockstar, particularly Red Dead Redemption 2, have shown their remarkable worth over time. The potential for a return to the Bully franchise exists, but with Grand Theft Auto 6 dominating the studio’s focus, fans might want to temper their expectations for Bully 2.
