Malicious Group Targets Nursery Chain, Exposing Children's Data Online
A UK nursery chain faces a grim situation as hackers threaten to release sensitive information of children and staff unless a ransom is paid.
A hacking group known as Radiant has compromised Kido, a nursery chain in the UK. They’ve threatened to release sensitive data unless a ransom is paid. Reports indicate that the group posted personal details of 10 children on a dark web site, along with a disturbing Data Leakage Roadmap saying they would disclose more child profiles and private information of 100 employees next.
The London Metropolitan Police have initiated an investigation, and the breach is linked to a security flaw in Famly, a software utilized by childcare organizations.
Anders Laustsen, head of Famly, remarked: “This malicious attack represents a truly barbaric new low.”
The stolen data comprises names, photographs, birthdates, locations, and contact information. Disturbingly, some parents have reported receiving threats demanding ransom payments on behalf of their child’s data.
One parent expressed frustrations saying, “Parents should direct their anger at those who committed this act, not at the nursery staff.”
In response to inquiries, Radiant admitted they are motivated by profit, stating, “We do it for money, and I’m aware we are criminals.” This attack underscores the serious risks associated with digital data safety, particularly pertaining to children.
