Exciting new update adds detailed landmarks and airports for players to explore in Japan.

During Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast, the new Japan World update for Microsoft Flight Simulator was revealed, inviting players to explore new points of interest in the Land of the Rising Sun. This was one of several exciting announcements during the event, and fans of Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 can enjoy this new content immediately, as the free patch is rolling out today.

Japan World Update

While 2020’s Microsoft Flight Simulator continues to thrive, the franchise’s latest release is making headlines as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is set to debut on the PS5 this December, following months of speculation. As Microsoft ports its popular titles to various platforms, fans are excited about this leap, and pre-orders for the PS5 version are already available. Additionally, those with a PlayStation VR2 will experience even more immersion as VR development has been confirmed.

Japan World Update is Now Live

Developer Asobo Studio confirmed the Japan World update during the event on September 25, with a blog post detailing what players can expect. According to the development team, this patch is one of the largest world updates yet, featuring 23 areas of interest meticulously updated. Players can explore beloved landmarks across Japan, including Fukuoka Tower, Akinada Bridge, and Osaka Castle. The update also introduces five new airports: Hokkaido Spaceport, Kitakyushu Airport, Rishiri Airport, Sado Airport, and Satsuma Iojima Airport. Notably, this free update for both Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 includes three new discovery flights, three landing challenges, one spotlight event, and one bush trip.

While the game has seen a positive critical reception with steady updates, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 did face launch issues, such as texture glitches and server complications reported by Xbox players. Despite the inconsistent performance affecting some, the introduction of new features and modes has revitalized hope among fans, leading them to trust Asobo Studio as they continue to address the reported issues.
