Fans who pre-ordered the original version of Metroid Prime 4 on Amazon are logging in to find that their reserved copies are being canceled. Back in 2017, Nintendo announced that the much-anticipated Metroid Prime 4 was in development with the producer of the original Prime trilogy, Kensuke Tanabe, taking the lead. However, this sequel will be developed by Bandai Namco Studios based in Japan and Singapore, rather than Retro Studios, which created the first three entries.
Nonetheless, about two years later, Nintendo revealed that development on Metroid Prime 4 had restarted completely, with Retro Studios stepping in to replace Bandai Namco due to the latter reportedly failing to meet Nintendo’s standards.
In 2024, Nintendo released the first official trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond that showcased Samus embarking on new missions at a remote Galactic Federation Research Facility. This trailer highlighted some of the game’s first-person action, although an official release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond remains undeclared, with Nintendo announcing a launch window sometime in 2025.
Amazon’s Cancellation of Pre-orders
Amazon’s official statement indicates that the cancelations of the original Metroid Prime 4 pre-orders stem from a lack of availability, potentially due to the development restart and time elapsed since these pre-orders were initiated. Customers affected by this development speculate that Amazon may be unwilling to honor the initial pre-order discount.
On a positive note, these pre-order cancellations appear to concern only the original version of Metroid Prime 4 and are not indicative of greater issues for the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which remains on track for 2025 and may potentially serve as a launch title for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.
