Ready or Not Studio Fires Community Manager for Controversial Comments on Shooting
Void Interactive has let go of its community manager after they remarked that following a shooting, "nothing of value was lost."
Void Interactive, the developer behind the controversial SWAT simulator Ready or Not, has announced the termination of its community manager following backlash for comments made in a Discord discussion about the recent Charlie Kirk shooting.
As reported by Kotaku, the community manager, known as Kaminsky, responded to a suggestion to filter out variations of Kirk’s name from the server. Kaminsky stated, “Nothing of value was lost,” during the conversation about the incident.
Images of this comment circulatd on Reddit and other social platforms, leading to widespread calls for Kaminsky’s dismissal. Void Interactive swiftly complied, removing Kaminsky from their Discord and eliminating their online presence from the studio’s website. Soon after, the studio confirmed the termination via a Steam post.
In a statement, Void Interactive expressed, “We are aware of comments made by our community manager about a recent tragic event. These statements do not reflect our values or represent our company. We have ended our relationship with this individual and reminded our team of the responsibility we all share when communicating on public platforms. Our focus remains on fostering a respectful and professional community around Ready or Not.”
This incident coincides with the dismissal of Drew Harrison, an artist at the studio Sucker Punch, who was let go for making light of the shooting that involved Kirk. Other studios have also faced scrutiny following this event, with calls for similar repercussions regarding negative comments about Kirk.
