WWE 2K25 has only been on the market for six months, yet 2K Games has disclosed the date when the servers for this wrestling game will be discontinued. Fortunately, players can rest easy knowing that the game won’t cease to function immediately; the servers will remain operational until March 14, 2027, which is two years after the game’s initial launch.
It is widely acknowledged that online-focused sports and multiplayer games tend to have limited lifespans due to various factors, including the high costs associated with server maintenance, the expiration of licenses, and changes in the ownership of publishing rights. This problem is further complicated by the industry’s shift to digital-only titles that disappear completely once removed from online stores, a concern highlighted by the Stop Killing Games movement. WWE 2K25 becomes the latest title to announce a shutdown date, but the advance notice provides players with a fair chance to enjoy their gaming experience.
Shutdown Scheduled for March 14, 2027
Shortly after WWE 2K25 featured prominently in the PS Plus Extra and Premium September 2025 lineup, it was confirmed that the game’s servers will be taken offline starting March 14, 2027. This announcement comes from 2K’s Online Services Status page, marking a two-year period from the game’s launch date of March 14, 2025. Players are now afforded less than a year and a half to accumulate achievements, partake in multiplayer activities, and take advantage of the creative aspects offered by Community Creations. Given that the game retails for $70 across numerous platforms, a two-year active lifespan may feel rather brief.
WWE 2K25 users on Switch 2 may encounter a more challenging scenario than players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, as this title was released for the Nintendo console a few months later, in July 2025, and at the same price point. Consequently, Switch 2 gamers may receive diminished value for their purchase relative to the planned server shutdown date. The absence of features like the image uploader and Community Creations further compounds the value discrepancy for Nintendo players.
In comparison to WWE 2K23 and WWE 2K24, WWE 2K25 benefits from a somewhat extended operational timeline; the prior two games are expected to cease online services approximately 22 months post-release. Importantly, WWE 2K25 is not alone in its impending service cessation, as PGA Tour 2K23 will also stop receiving support in 2027, with its online services scheduled to close on February 28, 2027, just days earlier. Moreover, The Golf Club 2019 and PGA Tour 2K21 have already been designated for shutdown on October 30, 2025.
