UK MP Claims Facebook Whistleblower Is Facing Financial Ruin Due to Meta's Actions

A Labour Party MP voiced support for Sarah Wynn-Williams in the House of Commons as she struggles financially after exposing misconduct in a recent memoir.

Former Facebook employee, Sarah Wynn-Williams, is reportedly on the brink of financial disaster following her memoir, Careless People, which accused Meta of misconduct during her tenure. Published in March, the book has led to substantial legal challenges against her, including a $50,000 fine for each breach of a non-disparagement agreement she signed upon leaving the company in 2017.

In a recent debate in the UK House of Commons, Louise Haigh, a Labour Party MP, defended Wynn-Williams, stating that despite Meta’s claim of no longer utilizing NDAs in sexual harassment cases, the whistleblower is being subjected to aggressive legal tactics aimed at silencing her.

Haigh remarked, “Meta has served a gagging order on Sarah and is attempting to fine her $50,000 for every breach of that order. She is on the verge of bankruptcy. The whole house and the government should support her in protecting whistleblowers.”

Meta has publicly disputed Wynn-Williams’ charges, with spokesperson Andy Stone characterizing her memoir as “false and defamatory” and dismissing similar claims made by other former employees as distortions of reality.

Wynn-Williams, who previously served as the director of global public policy for Facebook, has described a toxic workplace environment, including incidents of harassment, highlighting one case where she received a poor performance review while on maternity leave after a near-fatal childbirth incident.
