Community Manager of Ready or Not Terminated Due to Comments on Charlie Kirk Incident
A community manager of Ready or Not has been dismissed following a controversial statement made in relation to the passing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Void Interactive, the studio behind the game, confirmed this decision, emphasizing that the views expressed by the former manager do not align with the organization’s values.
During a public speaking event on September 10, Kirk was struck and resulted in death due to injuries from a shooting. This tragic incident ignited significant discussions in both the political and media arenas, raising concerns around gun violence and free speech.
Termination of the Community Manager Over Kirk’s Comments
While the gaming industry was already buzzing with discussions about the shooting, the specific incident that led to the community manager’s dismissal, known only as Kaminsky, stemmed from remarks made in the game’s official Discord channel. A user had suggested that Kirk’s name be included on a filtered word list to keep political discussions at bay, to which Kaminsky responded that they had “just added” Kirk’s name. They went further to express that “nothing of value was lost” concerning Kirk’s death.
An update from the community states that Void Interactive has severed ties with Kaminsky, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a respectful environment around Ready or Not.
Kirk’s assassination has also prompted other media implications, with several journalists reporting job losses after posting comments deemed unfit by their organizations. Notably, comedian Jimmy Kimmel faced backlash after his show’s suspension followed a monologue during which he criticized certain political factions in the aftermath of Kirk’s assassination. In light of these events, Roblox has also removed multiple games linked to Kirk’s assassination.
