When given the chance to buy a very suspicious CD from 1995, I would definitely say no. But that’s not true for the protagonist of Forbidden Solitaire, a game where they willingly insert a cursed disk into their PC, facing the dire consequences.
Forbidden Solitaire is marketed as a “card-slashing horror game” placed in a 90’s FMV-style digital nightmare rife with dungeons and doom. The game is being developed by Grey Alien Games, known for creating enjoyable solitaire games like Ancient Enemy and the horror title Home Safety Hotline.
The narrative unfolds in 2019 as you find a familiar 1995 CD-ROM game at a thrift store, recalling some controversy but never getting to play it until now. The trailer effectively captures the compression and color palettes typical of the mid-90s games.
Grey Alien Games states that a run through Forbidden Solitaire should take about 120–180 minutes, where players will seek upgrades from a mysterious entity observing from the walls, and unlock various impactful Jokers, elevating the gameplay experience.
You can find Forbidden Solitaire on Steam, where it’s coming soon, although players are advised to uninstall it before it’s too late.
