Some Borderlands 4 players are advocating for the introduction of slot machines into the game. Their argument suggests that currency in Borderlands 4 lacks functionality.

The latest installment from Gearbox Software was launched just five days ago on September 12. Following the release, many players have immersed themselves in gameplay, and discussions regarding the game’s pros and cons have been actively circulating online.
Call for Slot Machines Based on Money’s Worth
Reflecting this pattern, numerous fans have united to request the return of slot machines by Gearbox. This plea stems from the belief that money in Borderlands 4 lacks value. “Not only were they a fun way to spend cash for legendary item rolls but they also provided entertainment while waiting for friends,” one highly rated Reddit post by user Cadwae expressed. Although some players might oppose the idea of gambling being included again, they suggested alternative uses for currency.
A group of fans debating this topic questioned whether the concern over gambling was warranted in a game where characters are seen demolishing things with weapons. Reddit user Blueboykc asked, “Were people actually worried about gambling fake money in a mature game where I’m literally running around, blowing everything’s head off?” Currently, Borderlands 4 utilizes systems like Maurice’s Black Market vending machine for purchasing Legendaries with in-game currency, along with a respec machine offering players the chance to tailor their builds in exchange for some cash.
In Borderlands 4, cash is also needed to respawn named foes or bosses via Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine, which eases farming processes. However, as the fees increase progressively, they remain insufficient to serve as a genuine money sink—something many players are currently craving.
The debate about reintroducing gambling is not new. Fans of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands have also wished for the addition of slot machines since its launch in March 2022. Past appeals have gone unheeded, leading some to believe that this latest wave of requests may also be ignored. Previously, slot machines were present in Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and Borderlands 3, but their comeback in Borderlands 4 seems doubtful, though potentially the game may introduce further money sinks through downloadable content or free updates.
