This Entire Website is Powered by a Disposable Vape: Think Twice Before Disposing of One

A unique website showcases the surprising tech capabilities of disposable vapes as it operates as a fully functional site.

During my nicotine-infused days, I found myself going through disposable vapes at an alarming rate, which now seems regretful—particularly since I could have been turning those devices into websites after they ran out.

Don’t believe me? Visit ewaste.fka.wtf. This site is powered by the microcontroller from a disposable vape, and works surprisingly well. These vapes have a surprising amount of technology inside, including screens and microcontrollers.

As the creator of this vape-powered site, BogdanTheGeek, points out: “I wouldn’t want to be the lawyer who one day will have to argue how a device with USB-C and a rechargeable battery can be classified as ‘disposable.’”

The capabilities of these small devices are significant enough to host an actual website, although currently it experiences many errors due to high traffic. The text on the site details the process of getting it up and running, with more information available on BogdanTheGeek’s blog.

Despite its limited processing power—running on an ARM Cortex M0+ at 24 MHz—Bogdan managed to optimize the website to load pages in about 160 ms after implementing some clever coding techniques, making good use of the limited memory available.
