15 Ransomware Gangs Announce Retirement, Claiming Fulfillment of Goals

A collective of ransomware gangs, including Scattered Spider and Lapsus$, declares they will retire, claiming to have achieved their goals and now wish to enjoy their wealth in silence.

A coalition of 15 ransomware gangs, which includes names like Scattered Spider, IntelBroker, and Lapsus$, has announced their mass retirement from malicious activities. They assert that their objectives are fulfilled and they wish to enjoy their wealth quietly.

According to sources like The Register, the group posted about their retirement on Breachforums. They stated, “Silence will now be our strength; we have decided to go dark.”

Regarding their future, the collective mentions that some members will indulge in their financial gains, labeled as “golden parachutes,” while others plan to continue studying and enhancing systems that people use daily in silence.

Although they warn that future attacks could be attributed to them, they clarify these were orchestrated before the declaration of retirement. They claim that any law enforcement efforts to trace their activities will prove futile, hinting that past arrests of some gang members in France were part of a larger strategy.

The statement concludes by implying that their interception by authorities will eventually lead to disarray in investigations against them. This is not surprising, as cybercrime organizations frequently alter their identity and methods after leaving behind their previous operations.
