Old School RuneScape Takes a Tough Stance Against Gold Buying

Old School RuneScape has intensified its crackdown on real-world trading, introducing severe penalties for players caught buying in-game items from black market sellers.

Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is facing issues stemming from violations of Jagex’s terms of service, particularly regarding the harmful practice of Real-World Trading (RWT).

Key Updates

Jagex has decided to tighten its policies significantly against players who engage in buying in-game gold and items from black market sources. Historically, Jagex’s approach has been relatively lenient towards buyers compared to sellers; however, this is changing.

In a recent announcement, Jagex declared:

“Buying gold off a real world trader is already very clearly against the rules, but historically we’ve treated the buyers more leniently than the sellers when issuing penalties for real world trading.” — Jagex

Now, players buying gold can expect to face severe repercussions, including temporary or permanent bans and item confiscations. Community responses reveal a mix of optimism and skepticism about the effectiveness of these measures. Players have expressed delight at the prospect of stricter enforcement, with many shifting their focus to a zero-tolerance stance against RWT.
